ANIMATION

The Junebugs (Oddfellows)

0:03 - The introduction of lighter color, oriented strongly right and slightly upwards, drawing the viewer in and foreshadowing both the sun and the general directionality of the next several seconds.
0:09 - The appearance of the hill (a large, left-leaning and left-of-center graphic) foreshadowing a deceleration in the rightward-moving camera.
0:18 - The animation of the grain texture, deliberately offset from the primary and secondary animations of the grain itself.

Mork (Phil Borst)

0:05 to 0:10 - Wonderfully humanistic animation!
0:28 - The seamless transition from 2D to 3D.
0:35 - The zoom in as the ball slingshots to the left emphasizes the impact and allows the ball to travel farther left in frame, creating extra anticipation for the return slingshot.

My Darling’s Shadow (Conor Whelan)

0:11 - Moving dashed lines representing cars in the distance.
0:37 - The smoke trail!
1:55 - A visually unbalanced scene, to emphasize the tension.
2:28 - The extremely rough scribble for the husband’s shadow, emphasizing both his dark side and his dead-ness.

One Small Step (Taiko Studios)

SPOILERS BELOW.
PLEASE WATCH FIRST!

0:26 - The shadow of the cake on the plate forms a crescent moon.
0:41 - An “early” cut to black, eliciting feelings of surprise and curiosity which mirrors Luna’s current emotional state.
4:17 - The 3 sticks of incense suggest an upside-down rocket; her dreams have failed completely.
4:38 - The moon is covered up by clouds.
6:41 - Entering from the right side; Luna is coming home.
