BRIEF

Google aims to equip 40 million people with Google Cloud skills via its online platform, Google Cloud Skills Boost. One of the many tasks I’ve completed for GCSB is animating the promotional announcement video.

IDEATION

I asked the following:

• What’s the right balance of animated to
  non-animated content?

• Do certain parts of the script / music lend themselves to more or less activity?

• How do I work with the browser graphic instead of feeling constrained by it?
  

STYLE DECISIONS

In general, I favored opacity fades over hard wipes because I felt that the gentler aesthetic of fading on/off was more in line with the calm, inviting tone of the voiceover and music.

OUTCOME

Although Google Cloud Skills Boost is mostly not hosted on Youtube, it still has a promotional presence there. Google Cloud Tech (the GCSB Youtube channel) has over a million subscribers, with some of the videos (1, 2) I’ve helped animate reaching hundreds of thousands of views.
